Today, I waited until after work to get my training run in. I hate procrastinating and postponing my runs from the morning to the evening, but I just didn't feel like it this morning. I got home just before 5pm, changed into my running clothes that I had already laid out, grabbed my old and trusty 305 and took off.

My training plan called for "slow" 9 miles at 8:10 to 8:30 minute per mile pace and I was initially worried about that being too fast, but I was once again positively surprised how well I did and how well I felt. I actually ended up running an 8:05 pace, slowing down on the last my only after I realized that I was going faster than required. My heart rate never even reached 170 (my max HR is actually 194) and I cruised at an average HR of 153 throughout the run. I'm sure the perfect weather had something to do with it. Temps were in the low 70s and it just felt great.

Afterwards, I felt pretty good about myself and how the training has been going. Granted, I've only been doing it for 2 weeks and I am only doing the last 8 weeks of a 16 week marathon training schedule, but hopefully it will be enough to earn me a nice Rocket City Marathon finish with a PR in December. After all, I have been running an ultra marathon per month for the last 2 years. While it was not at any real race pace most of the time, at least it gives me the mental confidence that I can work hard for prolonged periods of time.
